The Weekend Edition - Productivity tips & handy tools 🧰

Hi Weavers!

I am often asked "how do you get so much done?"

Honestly, I don't think I do more than the average person, but there are some key things about my life that help to not waste, and therefore to have more time.

Today I'm sharing 6 things that help me to be more productive:

OTHER CREATIVE PURSUITS

While weaving is my number one, I also enjoy many other creative pursuits including crochet, knitting, painting, photography, spinning, dyeing, sewing, embroidery and yes, there are more too!

Last year I took a wonderful watercolour painting class on Skillshare and I love the end result. This little painting now sits in a frame on display in our home.

I'm very interested in acrylic painting (I worked with this medium as a high school student) and hope to do a class or two in the future.

You can get one month for free as a new sign up on Skillshare and there are lots of classes to choose from on a huge variety of topics.

HANDY TOOLS

In my recent Finishing Options class (a members only class) I used some tools that many of you were quite interested in.

I must admit that when the lovely Sandy sent me this one, I had no idea what it was. But now I use it frequently when sewing.

Basically, it's pointier than your finger, so it's great for poking into small spaces. I've found it particularly handy for when I'm sewing handwoven fabric and it needs a little bit of help to move through the stitching. Now I don't have to use a finger close to the needle, which is a lot safer!

That Purple Thang...

It's also great for when I'm hemstitching finer threads and it's hard to see and count them. I use the Purple Thang to hold aside the threads so I don't lose my place. You can see a demo of that in this short Youtube video.

The next tool that I now constantly use in my studio is so basic and helpful that I wonder how it took me so long to get some!

Instead of pricking myself with sewing pins, I now use these:
